The Post Covid-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project (PSDPEP)

The Social Investment Fund (SIF) is implementing a five-year Post-COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project (PSDPEP) with funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Ghana. The partner organizations are the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Department of Medical Microbiology of the University of Ghana, Legon, School of Nursing and Midwifery of the University of Ghana, Legon and Biotechnology Centre of the University of Ghana, Legon. The Project’s development objective is to contribute to Ghana’s post-COVID-19 recovery through infrastructure development to build health-related skills in higher education, restore livelihoods, and create jobs among youths and women.

The Social Investment Fund has engaged the Institute for Digital Marketing and Communication Ghana (IDMC Ghana) to strengthen the capacity of GNA in health communication, Youth Entrepreneurship, MSMEs Promotion, as well as Gender and Climate Change issues. 

Specifically, the consultant will train GNA journalists in producing mass media materials, mainly documentaries and infographics, on Youth Entrepreneurship, micro, small and medium (MSMEs) promotion, Health-related issues, and Gender and Climate Change issues. This is an aspect of the Post-COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project (PSDPEP), which is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the Social Investment Fund (SIF) and implemented by the Institute for Digital Marketing and Communication Ghana (IDMC Ghana).

We conduct in-depth research to understand the skills gaps and knowledge needs of journalists.

Our training modules are developed based on the needs assessment findings and delivered by experienced professionals.

We emphasize practical, hands-on exercises and simulations to ensure journalists can apply their new skills.

We pair journalists with experienced mentors for ongoing support and guidance.

Training Modules

Our comprehensive training program covers a wide range of topics essential for modern journalism:

  • Health Communication: Learn to accurately report on health issues, including public health crises and disease outbreaks.
  • Youth Entrepreneurship: Develop the skills to effectively report on youth-led businesses and economic initiatives.
  • MSMEs Promotion: Understand the role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana’s economy and learn how to report on their challenges and successes.
  • Gender Issues: Gain expertise in reporting on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and gender-based violence.
  • Climate Change: Understand the complexities of climate change and its impact on Ghana, and learn how to effectively communicate these issues to the public.
